What are people actually covering?
The problem GutterGate was built to solve.
Search for a downspout cover and you'll find four different products. Debris filters sit at the top of the downspout to stop clogs. Safety caps cover sharp cut edges. Underground covers seal buried extensions. And pest covers close the open pipe end where critters get in. Only you know which problem you have — here's how to tell.
One cover, three layers of protection
- Hinged door lets rainwater and debris flow right through — no clog prevention needed.
- Seals the opening against mice, chipmunks, rats, snakes and insects.
- Covers sharp edges at foot and ankle height and shields the pipe end from mower and trimmer hits.
- Durable ASA, made in the USA, installs in about a minute with two screws. No ladder.

Downspout Cover — Frequently Asked Questions
Will a downspout cover stop clogs?
Only debris filters claim to. GutterGate is not a clog-prevention product — its hinged door is designed to let water and debris flow through. What it covers is the open end of the pipe: the pest entry point, the sharp edge, and the mower-vulnerable end.
What size downspout cover do I need?
Hold a credit card over the opening: if the card covers it, order 2x3 (or 3x2 for tall openings); if the opening is bigger than the card, order 3x4 (or 4x3). Round downspouts use the 4-inch Round cap.
Can I install it myself?
Yes — it mounts at ground level with two screws and a drill or screwdriver. Most homeowners cap a downspout in about a minute, no ladder required.
